                                                       Balls and Eggs

Reclining Torso, Who says Ladies don’t have Balls, Vessel Woman, Gutsy Dancer and Egg on a ½ Torso are part of a series exploring femininity, fertility and feminism.  They are a study on the relationship of the exterior aesthetics of the female form to the interior emotions and biological reproductive functions. I am interested in the image women have of themselves in light of the evolving definition of feminism.

Throughout history, the female of our species has evoked a wide range of emotions. Whether positive or negative, sentiments on womanhood have always involved an element of mystery. Attitudes toward women are reflected in the standards of beauty and fashions of the times. Women’s bodies were literally molded into different forms. Various parts of the body were alternately hidden or greatly exaggerated.

I am curious about the myths of the Goddess Mother and some of the symbolism that are associated with her. The egg form is rich in symbolism concerning creation, birth and rebirth. The sphere also provides a schema that is often associated with the female figure. Both forms have no beginning or end, they both represent perfection.
